Moved.

Finally!

We’ve moved to on-base housing and love it so much more than off base. Our off-base house was gorgeous and had lots of room, but the staircase was so narrow and steep that we’d been sleeping downstairs since Cupcake was born (and after buying a king-sized mattress in November, sleeping on the couch seemed like a crime!)

So Bagpiper looked into switching us to on-base housing and we moved in a couple of weeks ago and we’re all settled and unpacked now. We have cable TV (we didn’t have that off base) and yesterday the internet was connected so I can play online again.

Our on base house is definitely a little smaller than our off base one, but it’s still plenty of room for us and the best part? AMERICAN APPLIANCES. It feels so so so so so good to have an American oven and American washer/dryer. We’re also a lot closer to Bagpiper’s job. So close, in fact, that he sometimes runs to work in the mornings. He’s even been coming home for lunch! It’s nice and we’re all happy.

Except maybe the dog.

She does really good around the baby, but I think she’s starting to get jealous of the attention the baby gets. Bagpiper and I make sure to give the dog plenty of attention, but Sushi doesn’t seem to think it’s enough and wants more and is acting out….by pooping in the house.

Yesterday she even pooped on the couch!

I was livid.

We take her out just as often (and maybe even more so) than before and she’ll pee and poop outside, but she’ll also poop inside, too. It’s becoming less frequent so hopefully she’s adjusting to having a baby in the house, but UGH! I hate it.

Cupcake is getting so big! We’re fitting into newborn size clothes now and started to smile and even giggle. I keep trying to catch that giggle on camera, but so far I haven’t been able to capture it.

She’s been sleeping through the night for a couple of weeks now and that has definitely been such a blessing. Everyone told me that babies didn’t start sleeping through the night until they were about three months old. Cupcake started sleeping through the night at just six weeks! We’re definitely very lucky!

Since I’ve been getting more sleep it’s given me more energy to get things done during the day. I’ve started writing again — I’m currently working on the first draft of a romantic thriller and I’m also editing a novella that I keep ignoring (I’m not a fan of editing/revisions). I’ve done some knitting — I made a beanie for the Bagpiper, some hats for Cupcake and I’m working on a small sweater for her. In a couple of days I’m starting a Knit-A-Long with Allyson from The Sweatshop of Love. I’ll be knitting a gorgeous cardigan for myself. I’ve ordered my yarn and it should be arriving this week.

I’ve also started a work out program. I started yesterday (Feb. 1) with Zumba 2 for the Wii. It’s a lot of fun and definitely burns the calories. I like that the game tells me how accurate my movements are and how many calories I’ve burned. I’m tracking my eating and work out habits on Lose It! I’ve used the site before and liked it, so I’m starting again. My plan is to do Zumba every day and also walk around the neighborhood every day. Next month I’m hoping to start P90X in addition to Zumba and walking daily.

P90X is a tough, tough workout, which is why I’m not starting with that. I’ve done it before and I know it works, but since I haven’t worked out in a looong time, I figure it’s best to start with walking and Zumba before jumping into P90X. I may not even start P90X in March. I may wait until April. We’ll see.

And that’s about covers the news.

Now that there is internet in the new house, I hope I can get more regular with my blog updates.

Catching up and October goals

ZOMG. It’s going on nearly three weeks since I’ve posted anything.

I’ve thought about it, I really have, but all the energy I had during the second trimester has seem to have flown away. I’m into the third trimester now (only three months to go!) and I find myself tired all the damn time.

So I’ve had to really evaluate how I want to handle my goals for October. My September goals…well…some I met and some I didn’t. The ones that I didn’t were mostly due to how tired I’ve been the past few weeks.

September Goals

Writing:

  • Finish current novella. It’s about 30% done.
  • Write at least 500 words a day. Seems small, but 500 words is better than no words.
  • Track daily word count in Excel.
  • No playing Sims 3 until word count is met and counted for the day. (Yay for reward system)

Knitting:

  • Finish baby hat/booties set.
  • Finish baby blanket #1
  • Cast on for baby blanket #2 (if yarn order ever arrives) and knit at least 50% (or finish, if possible)

Mommy Stuff:

  • Figure out where Bagpiper and I are purchasing furniture from.
  • Order/Ship/Assemble crib, changer/dresser and rocking chair.
  • Order nursery bedding.
  • Feel like I’m somewhat prepared for motherhood by having a crib already.

What I got done:

  • Didn’t play any Sims 3, but recently, Sidney Bristol has gotten me hooked on Zombie Lane over on G+…
  • Finished baby hat.
  • Figure out where Bagpiper and I are purchasing furniture from.
  • Order/Ship/Assemble crib, changer/dresser and rocking chair.
  • Order nursery bedding.
  • Feel like I’m somewhat prepared for motherhood by having a crib already.

All the baby stuff got done because I married an awesome man. The nursery is now about 75 percent ready. All that’s left is for me to organize the closet and move my yarn bins and a few books into our bedroom closet (which is ridiculously huge). A sweep/mop job and some displaying of baby stuff I have piled in the crib, and the nursery will be done.

Just yesterday, in fact, Bagpiper and I went to the furniture store and purchased a rocking chair for the nursery and a playpen/bassinet combo. We have all the “big” baby stuff out of the way. My mom is throwing me a virtual baby shower later this month — like a normal baby shower, complete with food and games, except I’m going to be Skyping in.

Also yesterday, Bagpiper and I purchased a really nice KING SIZED bed. In the years we’ve been together, we’ve slept on some really crummy mattresses. Our first mattress, was my bed from home. Comfy, but twin sized. Our next was a full size that was pretty cheap, so it wasn’t very comfy after the first month, also, it was me, him and the dog — so not a lot of room, despite the fact that the dog is tiny (all three of us like to sprawl out). Currently, we’re using a government issued bed (we left the full-size in Texas). It’s also full size and OMG…it’s hella uncomfortable. Sleeping on rocks would be more comfortable. I’d say I’m uncomfortable because of the pregnancy, but Bagpiper has told me his back hurts because of the bed too.

So, we finally did it and threw a lot of money at a really nice, high quality KING SIZE bed. It’ll arrive on Thursday and we’re both pretty excited about this.

Between the new mattress and having all the big stuff in the nursery, October is off to a really good start. Still, because I’m tired frequently, I’m keeping my goals very light.

October Goals

Writing

  • Finish “Party Favors”. I’d estimate that I’m about 7o percent done. A couple of scenes and adding the smexy bits is all that’s really left.
  • Plan for NaNoWriMo. Yes, I’m still going to do NaNo. Except this year I need/want to go in with an outline. If I’m going to be sleepy a lot, I need all the preparation I can get. Still deciding between three ideas, so I need to figure out which I want to write.

Reading

  • Finish enough books to schedule reviews through January (this is an October/November goal. I’ll be taking maternity leave from Book Addicts from the last half of December through the month of January. Don’t want to leave my girls hanging!) I’ve been getting lots of reading done, so I don’t see this as being a big issue, I’m just writing this so I remember to actually write the reviews… 😛

Knitting

Mommy Stuff

  • Finish the nursery. Preferably by Oct. 20 — this is when mother-in-law is visiting. More importantly, this is when mother-in-law BRINGS MY SUSHI DOG TO JAPAN.
  • Spend ridiculous amounts of time cuddling my dog when she arrives. Cause, yea, I’m one of those people whose pets are their babies. Their might be a human baby in my belly, but my Sushi dog is still my child, too.

Other than all of that, there’s not a lot new to report. I’m bigger and rounder and dealing with lots more punches and kicks. I’m trying out a slew of new recipes from Pinterest this week, so hopefully I’ll remember to take pictures and share.

Oh, PS, for those of you who look for me on FB, I’ve kind of slacked off on playing on FB. The new changes drive me bonkers, and I really can’t stand the fact that I can’t turn off the “top story” feature. You can still find me on Twitter and on G+, however.

Working Trophy Wife. Maybe.

I find myself thinking more and more about what I want to do when I finally get to Japan.

Though the Bagpiper and I are still in the midst of getting things done — dental exams, physicals, packing — I’ve been doing a little research on the side. Even though I don’t have to work if I don’t want to (and I admit, the idea of being a trophy wife is pretty awesome), I’ll still have a shiny new degree that I can use.

Since I don’t have to hold a traditional job, my main focus is going to be revising and polishing my fiction manuscripts so I can start querying agents and publishers by 2012. Once school is behind me, I’ll have a lot more time to devote to writing. Aside from writing fiction, I also want to re-open my etsy shop (though this will be a side thing, and not something I expect to make a lot of money from).

However, I still want to put my degree to some use. After a little online research, I’ve found that each base in Okinawa has its own weekly newspaper. Once I’m in Japan and everything is all settled (and I’ve gone to the beach), I plan to contact editors to see about writing for a local American paper. I think it would be really awesome experience.

There are also offices and small public relations firms on the bases too and I plan on looking into public relations work as well. The Bagpiper’s also mentioned teaching, so there’s that too, but I’m not sure if that’s where I want to go. I mean, I just got done with school…the last thing I want is to go back, even if it’s in a teaching capacity.

Of course, I’m also going to be learning Japanese, so who knows what kind of awesome job I can find that utilizes my language skills.

Then again, I could very well just take full advantage of being a trophy wife. 😉
